HSK Level 1 is the first level of the HSK Chinese proficiency test, covering roughly 150 basic words and simple greetings. This page publishes the required HSK 1 vocabulary for free with pinyin and translations, and introduces the core grammar patterns - basic word order, sentences with 是 - through example sentences. Practice questions and mock quizzes in the same format as the exam let you work on vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and listening together.

我喝茶。
I drink tea.
"A 是 B" means "A is B". 是 is not used with adjective predicates.
他是老师。
He is a teacher.
To negate 是, place 不 before it, giving 不是.
我不是学生。
I am not a student.
"A 有 B" means "A has B". The object often carries a number plus a measure word, such as 一个.
我有一个朋友。
I have a friend.
有 is never negated with 不; it always takes 没, giving 没有.
我没有钱。
I do not have any money.
